Hopefullt there is a simple solution to this buried in the Canon D70 menus. When shooting in RAW the RAW files consistantly default to custom setting even though I have it set the majority ( all) of time to auto white balance. The custom setting from looking at the data is set at 25000k which is way over the top. Everything looks fine in custom setting with the indicator set firmly in the centre. I have also tried uninstalling and then reinsalling ACRAW.

I havent attempted to set up a custom setting for the white balance so why it should default to it is a mystery to me. Had a look around but have been unable to solve this one.

Its easily fixable of course by altering the white balance setting post processing but its annoying the hell out of me now. Any suggestions welcome.

RAW is RAW so if your PP software is auto changing something surely it is something you have changed in the software setting??!?! which software are you using? have you tried resetting your camera see if that helps?(although I cannot see how/why but worth a shot).

Maybe it's different for a D70, but with my daughters D80, raw is raw. I.e. What ever other settings you set should be irelevent. You can then twiddle with colour balance and sharpness etc in post.

As above, when you're setting the WB in Raw, you're not altering the file but you are 'tagging' it with a WB setting. So if you open the file in Canon DPP, it will default to the WB setting you selected (which you're free to change) and if you use LR, you can ask it to use your selected setting (which might not be as well implemented as the Canon software (as Adobe have to reverse engineer the Raw data). Other software packages might just completely ignore your choice.

It all depends on your Raw conversion software and has nothing to do with camera settings.

oh right .. I think I understand that.. looking at the wrong thing basically.. I think I must have got the expectations from the way my 550 defaulted to "as shot" when initially opened in camera raw.. thank you to you all for lightening my darkness
