This is driving me mad. I have a load of raw files on my Canon S90 and need to use them at work. My work computer is running Windows XP64. Canon's own software doesn't appear to be XP64 compatible as everything I have downloaded so far has refused to install. Gimp won't open them.

Anything else I can try? Preferable as free as possible!

When you say you "need to use" your raw files at work, what do you want to do with them, just view them?
Obviously if you need to do anything beyond simply viewing, you need a suitable raw development program, like Canon DPP.

To view raw files on a Windows 64-bit system you need the Microsoft raw codec pack available here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
Make sure you download the 64-bit version and not the 32-bit (x86) version.

Canon do not make a 64-bit codec, and they have indicated they have no intention of producing one.

Thanks Brian. I need to convert them to jpeg but just being able to view them would be a nice start!

Thanks for the link but unfortunately I tried that earlier but with no success. I download the 64 bit version, try to install it and get a message saying:

'The windows installation package cannot be installed by the windows installer service. You must install a windows service pack that contains a newer version of the windows installer service.'

Yet windows says that there are no current updates available. Banging head against brick wall!

It looks like the MS codec is for Vista and W7 only.
Your problem is going to happen more often as support for XP diminishes.

The other viewer alternatives might be Faststone (free!), which claims to open raw files, although I've never tried it myself. http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
Or Fast Picture Viewer http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ but that's a paid for program.

Why not just install Canon DPP? It runs fine on my Windows 7 64-bit system.

Brian, you're a star. Faststone is exactly what I needed. Thank very much.

You're Welcome - Happy to be of help.
