no mate they are not
md:thumbs:

you might find some of the clone grips include batteries, but do reserach them well before buying as some have been thought to damage the camera. Also, keep in mind you can use non canon branded batteries in the official canon grips.

If battterys were included it would be worth buying just for them.

True, especially given recent price hikes! :bang:

A 5D Mk II battery is now heading towards the £100 mark. A few months ago they were £59

Anyway, manufacturers like Ansmann make the grips with built in battery, but as has been pointed out already, be very careful as there have been reports that some grips have taken out the PCB of the camera body itself. Not sure whether the Ansmann was one of them

£100? thats bad, got a spare for my mk3
a while back for £80, god knows what they are now.

The Phottix ones include batteries usually.

I've got the Phottix grip, I bought it without batteries as I already have seven :D

I have a Phottix on my 350d plus a couple of extra Phottix batteries on standby about £60for the lot, works just fine and a massive saving on what the same would be if it had Canon stamped on it.

thanks for the replies...

I'd stay with official Canon personally (and did). I think the cheap clones just scream tacky, but of course people will disagree.

My Phottix one screamed better finish & feel than my genuine 300D grip

3rd party batteries are fine, official Canon ones are a rip off.

I have 2 cheap £10 ones in my 5D and they far outperform the official Canon ones...they have almost double the capacity.

I've heard a lot of people say the same thing, but I've always been the type of guy who buys genuine items. I'm into football and some genuine football shirts cost £50 (ish), even though you can get fake £15 delivered shirts online that look identical. They even come with the Nike labels -- I sat there for half an hour trying to tell the difference and I couldn't, but regardless of that I just feel tacky unless it's a genuine item.

If you're not bothered about the name then the latest Phottix grips seem like a bargain, but for those who are (like me), you'd be better off spending the extra £45 and knowing you have the genuine item.

If the £75 price difference (from HK) affected my photography then it'd be worth it but as it doesn't....

The money I've saved on non brand batteries / grips /remotes / Tripods has paid for my spare 50D

I got my BG-E5 for £92, and the Phottix was £45 so it's only £47 extra for the genuine item... I agree about the batteries (I have a Phottix battery), but they're hidden so I don't feel too bad.

don't take this the wrong way but......

your'e a brand tart

Ps. and very off topic.... I've got a R6
I am indeed. ;)

How do you know I have an R6?
