Hi everyone,

A few years ago, I bought a Canon 80D and absolutely loved using it. The camera accompanied me on trips to several countries, including Iceland and Spain, and was a perfect fit for my needs at the time. I had a lot of fun with it!
Unfortunately, during a trip to Portugal, the camera was hit by a few drops of saltwater from a wave (it really was just a few drops! ). Right after that, it started making a strange sound and then completely stopped working. I immediately removed the battery and put the camera in a bag of rice, hoping it would help, but I was never able to bring it back to life.

Since then, I’ve bought a new camera, but now that I finally have some time, I’m wondering what to do with the Canon 80D. Do you think it might still be repairable? And if so, is it even worth (financially) trying to get it repaired?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Saltwater is a killer, it's unlikely to be economically repaired IMO. :(

I agree, depending on where the sea water penetrated and especially as you say it happened a while back (if that is what mean in your OP) the effect can be, time related, quite corrosive to electronics equipment.

Unfortunately it is unlikely to be financially viable to get it repaired. Hopefully you were insured.

Okay, thanks a lot for your feedback @Brentor @Box Brownie @gramps!
I was in fact not insured back then, however, I am now – at least one learning But I will sell the broken body online then and see if someone else can make use of it or its parts:)
