Yes
At the moment I own a 1D4 and borrow my brother's 1Dx on match days.

Next season I won't have access to the 1Dx as my brother will be too far away.

I sold my 300/2.8 II and bought a 400/2.8 I. The 400 goes on the 1D4.

Now the 7D2 has been rumoured to be around the corner for the last 3 years or so but it may (or may not) be finally around the corner.

If the 7D2 was 10fps and had really good ISO to 8000k the options for me would open up.

The 70-200 could go on the 7D2 and leave the 400 on the 1D4 or sell the 400 and get another 300/2.8 II second hand (i.e. no cost involved) and put that on the 7D2.

That would make my Peli case quite a lot lighter.

If the 7D2 was 8fps and had the good ISO to 8000k then I think I would be better off with a 300 on the 7D2.

If the 7D2 doesn't come then maybe a second 1D4 is what I should get.

Yes yes yes I know it's al speculation but it has been very quiet on here recently.

Any thoughts other than wait and see?

I still think that there is a gaping gap price wise between the 7D and the 5D that Canon would do well to fill. Whilst Canon are selling lots of 5D3s a high spec crop body would sell really well I think. Pitch it in around the 1600/1700 market without a daft MP sensor to help with the noise control and it'd be a winner IMHO.

Yes I agree a lower MP count and better ISO would be great. Forget 24MP.

10fps and decent water resistance would be be nice.

I am guessing at 8fps.

I'd like to see a dumbed down MkIV with the 61 point AF. 18 MP and plenty of customisation options.

I want less customisation. I want to stick a lens on, not need any MA, stick it in manual and have sooper dooper sharp images :)

I now what you mean though.

we have seen this before but so far no show for the 7d mk2 and thats a shame maybe august its says too.
the problem is the 70d is very close to the old 7d so the new will have to be a leap forward IMHO and then theres the price it will bring it up towards the 5d mk3, see where this going, if I'm paying so much for a 7d mk2 then a little more i can get a 5d mk3.
like a lot of people i would like to see a 7d mk2 soon but it is always just out of reach

Need more FPS than the 70D.

I am a bit guilty of when a player looks like shooting, holding the shutter down.....

The FPS then plays a part in whether ball is in frame or not.

I'm sure the market is there. I bought the 5D3 because of a lack of a suitable crop body. I was fortunate that I already had a 500mm so didn't suffer too much with the full frame.

For many the cost of a fast long prime lens is prohibitive and that's where the market will come from i believe. 400 f5.6 on a crop body with better noise control than the 70D, 10fps, 61 point AF.

I would swap my MkIV for one if it was available.

Maybe its just wishful thinking. We will see.

I agree Max please don't go overboard with the MPs. Give us better ISO handling, speed and weather protection.

That is one thing with the 1D and I am sure with the Nikon D series, they are super strong and greater protection against the elements.

Trouble is Rob, and Nikon know this to their massive cost, if you introduce a camera which is close to the spec of the pro cameras then sales of the top end pro 1DX will be hit massivly, when Nikon introduced the D700 (a smaller clone of the D3) it massivly impacted sales of the D3, It was in effect the exact same camera, same sensor, same lever of weather sealing, etc, etc, only thing different was a slower frame rate of 6fps but if you bought the battery grip and BL-3 adaptor and used EN-EL4 batteries as in the D3 you could get 8fps and with a firmware hack you could get it without the grip or battery, you then had a D3 for half the cost.

Getty shooters were using 2 of the D700

That's a fair point Gary but the anyone who is in the market for a high spec crop camera won't be buying a 1DX instead. They may go for a 5D3 or they may drop back to a 70D.

I don't know which bodies give Canon their biggest profits but if they had something to fill this gap I think all you would see is a realignment of which bodies are being bought. The 1DX will still sell to those that have deep pockets /feel the need/require one but it's not a case of "I can't buy a 7DII so ill buy a 1DX"

I would love a 1DX but I'd have to sell both my bodies to get one and I feel having 2 bodies is better for me. Ideally I'd like a 1.6 crop as well and have toyed with the idea of swapping my MkIV for a 70D but I think most people would think I was plain daft to do that.

The 7D is showing its age and surely is due for replacement.

Gaz J - yes I agree with Gary C.

That is why I think that when it comes (assuming it does) it will be 8fps, but as long as it has the high ISO then that will be great. Obviously it will be a 1.6 rather than full frame, but who cares if the results are great, so Canon then have the difficulty of pricing and that is why I reckon £1999.99 for cash...

I think Canon have held back on the 7DII whilst they concentrated on getting out the 1Dx and the 5D3.

Of course the damn thing may never appear anyway in which I will get another 1D4 (after selling stuff I use infrequently).

Gaz J - I think you would be mad to sell the 1D4 for a 70D.

I still then come back to if I have the 70-200 on the 1D4 then the 400 maybe too long on a 1.6 crop.

Any thoughts on that?
