My first post here, please be gentle :-)

I've always had a point and shoot of some sort and was recently bought a bridge camera but I have been looking at the 7D as its been recommend for my purpose. I'm a fan of combat sports, I train it in my spare time and attend a lot of shows and comps. I would like to start taking pictures at these events (with prior permission), mainly for my own amusement but hopefully it could lead to some paid work, after all why pay all the money for lenses and other kit and not try to recoup the cost.

My question, is the 7D (obviously with the right lenses) a good enough camera to take pictures at weddings, events and functions and charge for it, I won't be going looking for oppertunitys at the moment but if something happens to come my way via friends and family I would consider it.

The 7D is an excellent camera. Lenses for what you would like to do will cost a little though. I guess that combat sports are shot indoors so a fast lens would be ideal, as flash will not be an option. Then how far away from the action are you?
A fast zoom is going to cost. The Canon 70-200 IS mk2 new £1600 or there abouts 2nd hand still a grand, but a fantastic lens.
I'am sure others with more experiance will be along shortly with more/better info
