Hi there peeps, have a feeling this is going to end up in the Canon service centre but just want to get your thoughts first and see if anyone else has had similar.
Part way through shooting hockey on Saturday with a 70-200, 2.8, I couldn't tweak settings via the 'Q' (as I had been doing regularly throughout the game) and the lens stopped focussing. I'm fairly comfortable with the camera but thought I'd perhaps inadvertently hit a shortcut to something. The back button * was on (I don't use it regularly) and with a few minutes to half time I just stuck with my other combo 7Dii / 400, 5.6. I didn't suss it via the manual but also noticed that actually, none of the buttons on the back of the camera would work. When I got home, I took the 70-200 off and downloaded via the cable what I had managed to catch. I noticed without a lens on that the 'Q' button was now functioning with the ability to flick around with the multi controller and main dial etc and review the shots I'd taken which I couldn't before. I then tried with an alternative lens and nada, back to none of the buttons on the back working. Without the wind though, I could hear a motor or something. The noise it was making, although not loud, it didn't sound happy. I tried several other lenses, the same. On Googling to try and diagnose, a thread mentioned a potential bug and firmware. I was still on the 1.0.4 which it came with. Looking at what the updates provided, I wasn't confident it would help, given it just suddenly failed but anyway, I've downloaded the latest 1.1 and the result is still the same.
Camera is nearly 14 months old with no extended warranty taken (typical). It's had a fair bit of use but hasn't been hammered, certainly not enough to warrant failure of £1,300 worth of kit.
Any idea what may be wrong with it? It seems OK without a lens but obviously isn't with one.
Bought from Jessops. Would they send it on to Canon or with it being out of warranty, should I just send it direct? First time I've had any kit fail.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
