Canon 7D in the extreme cold

Interesting read - like the picture further down of the seal/sealion having a bite of the tripod

I think this has convinced me that the 7D is the next body for me. Cheers for the link.

Thanks for the post Alan.

I have had a 7D a few weeks now and I am extremely pleased with it, I had been wondering about how good the weather sealing was, now I know.

Canon say it is the same as the old EOS 1N film camera, I still have one of these and when I was using film it seemed pretty bomb proof having used it in all conditions.

Good to know it will be reasonably safe when the weather gets bad up here :-)

Cheers,

Paul.

That's pretty cool.

I've used my 5d2 in heavy rain and it performed very well, as is expected. Not sure I'd want to dip it in salt water or freeze it in ice though. Interesting read.

He makes no comment about battery life in conditions like that... which will bomb through the floor!

I thought Lithiums were pretty good in the cold. It might not stand up to the 8fps I suppose.

If so, I suppose it is something he just accepts as inevitable, regardless of the type of dSLR.

If you have any doubts about the 7D and its weather sealing read this :http://canonfieldreviews.com/

I must get one soon, xmas present to myself me thinks :naughty:

But canon doesn't claim them as being weather sealed, does it? The Luminous Landscape report says:
"Canon had loaned me a 5D MKII which my business partner Chris Sanderson intended to also use to shoot a video documentary on our trip, but regrettably it failed in the rain on our first day ashore. Chris will report on this experience soon. Regular contributor Nick Devlin was along with his own new 5D MKII, which worked in the rain and humidity on this trip without problem. His report will appear here soon as well."
which kinda suggests it is a matter of luck whether it stands up to harsh weather or not.
