Hi,

I'm really not happy with the auto focusing on my 7D and am considering getting it looked at. I was wandering if anyone here had gone down the route of taking the camera back to their reseller and / or contacting Canon to try to get this or another problem resolved. Basically I know my contract is with the reseller so assume they should be my first port of call but is this the best route to take or should I contact Canon directly? Along with the focusing issue I have had to remove and reseat the original battery on a couple of occasions to get the camera to turn on which I could live with but may be an indicator of a bigger problem.

I upgraded from my 450D at the beginning of this year and expected the 7D to perform noticeably better at auto focusing however I'd say my keep rates are about the same if not worse than the 450D which in terms of moving subjects is pretty low and even with static subjects I can take a series of shots which are OK, recompose the shot and take another series which are not focused. I have the same problems regardless of lens, I have read the manual but I don't expect to have to enable non standard settings and tweak custom functions in order for a camera such as the 7D to take acceptable photos.

Having read up on other people’s experiences I have just hard reset the camera and will see if this helps, I have also enabled AF Point Expansion and will try shooting in this mode rather than Zone AF, but as stated I don't think I'm wrong to expect the 7D to outperform the 450D out of the box.

Any advice / comments welcome but I am new here so take it easy on me :)

I have the same issue
got a 7d and have focusing issues
did some test shots yesterday on a tripod with the 7d and my 600d
600d is fine 7d isn't
doesn't matter which lenses i use results were the same
was going to do a calibration of each lens to 7d but rain stopped play
