I'd guess thousands of people.

How to stop it happening is the question, and we'd need more details before beginning to answer it.

Need a sample image. However, most of the time the problem can be fixed by one of the following -

1. Don't underexpose in camera then boost exposure in post-processing.

2. Don't look for noise by printing the image 5 foot wide then examining it with a magnifying glass (or the digital equivalent).
