Had an odd one at the weekend and I'm wondering if you can shed any light on it for me.

I was shooting in my little studio at home using my 5D with the 24-105 f4 and rather than get in my model's face for one shot I opted to change to my 70-200mm f4. I did a very quick review on screen and immediately changed back to the 24-105mm. It looked awful! The lighting looked dreadful and it didn't look sharp at all.

Both lenses are f4 so I thought it should not make too much difference. Yes one is L glass and the other is not. Is there really that much of a difference?

Sorry can't post the pics as it was a nude shoot for a friend! (Think "How to look good naked")

The ones I did with the 24-105mm came out a treat and we are really happy with them. I might have to try to replicate the setup using a dummy and take my time to have a look at this.

Any ideas?

Ali,

You could crop the images and post an "modesty protecting" portion of each so that we can get an idea of what you're unhappy about.

Both of those lenses are L glass. Would be interested to see a comparison - although I've not done a systematic side-by-side, shooting similar subjects in quick succession with my 24-105 and 70-200, at a focal length of about 85mm, the 24-105 did a much better job.
