Canon 70 -200 f4 is date codes help

Hi can anyone help ..
do canon still use a date code on the newer Canon 70 -200 f4 is ... Im looking at a lens with just a serial number so not sure what to do.

well mine is 11 months old and has a date code (and its for sale in the classifieds :eek:)
 
Thanks Stephen ... i'm in Australia so can't just pop around a see it .. the one I'm looking at is new but with only a serial number and I'm pretty sure canon have stopped using the codes

Hmmm... I've checked my recent L lenses
70-200 f4 non-IS, coded February 2011.
100mm Macro, coded July 2011.

So they do still code some.
 
Hi gridlock ... yes seem strange that some are dated and others not ... could be down to country and stock supplies ... that link you posted was a great help ..
I checked out the lens I was after it is 3 months old without the date code just the serial number without the refurbished mark .. that really is going to one to watch out for I was not aware of it ...
