Oneday when I'm a big boy I will also have one of these...Have the 2x though

:D

I've tried IS at motocross and to be honest it didn't make a lot of difference. You tend to be swinging the lens so quickly that the benefit of IS isn't as much as you would expect. That was one of the reasons why I went for the sigma at the time.

Which mode did you use on the I/S, 1,2 or did you try both?

I have both and to be honest I do not use either of them much as I have a 100-400 too!

My daily kit is 5D with 24-105 :) :) and 1DMk2n with the 100-400!

However, the 28-300 is an ideal holiday lens when you are limited on space etc for kit - the f/4 is a bit slow depending on lighting!

Build quality is superb and the range is mint - 10x zoom - picture quality is good for this type os lens - unfair to compare it against the 70-200!

Hope this helps!

right then, taken delivery of a brand spanking new 70-200L IS f/2.8 and a Canon EF 2x II - just need to get some time to go and take some pictures now!!! :S

However, the sealing would be a big benefit. If the non-IS version had it that's what I'd go for. It doesn't, so that's why I'm thinking seriously about the IS version now.

I'm with you on the IS Dod - mine spends more time off than on TBH - I only occasionally use it at speedway when I'm playing about trying shots out but usually for general stuff it's off. It sure as hell makes a different for more static shots though!! It's the sealing that really attracted me to it - like you I spend a lot of time through the summer coughing in the middle of clouds of dust so that seemed like a real benefit.

My 70-200 arrived from Kerso this morning - cheers mate in case you're reading this  & I've taken it for a test run at the zoo - will post the result as as soon as I get a bit of time to myself - feels really wierd using a zoom as I'm definately a prime guy
Have a sports event I'm covering tomorrow & Sunday & the forecast is rain - definately be happy about the weatherproofing if the weather doesnt hold up.

Has it arrived yet then? :suspect:

:lol:JFDI!!!!

LOL!!! Happy as a pig in chiffon Doddy? :D

Well It's arrived this morning! :D

First impressions, beautifully built as you'd expect for this much dough, not quite as heavy as the 100-400L, but it's no lightweight! Produces beautifully bright viewfinder images in the 1D even in this crap light and rain. AF is fast and positive.

Quick test shot - it would be rude not to...

153mm, 1/200 at f4, 800 ISO.

I love it already. Now the bad news is I don't have to time to play with it for a few days so gotta put it away. :'(:'(

JFDI Glo! ;)

A monopod will definitely make this lens less tiring to use. I used one for this shot - the birds are ravenous this morning with all lthe heavy rain yesterday, so they're throwing caution to the wind a bit.

Joe, I think Doddy was just trying to tell me something with that shot.

Hehe, nah, they were the only thing I saw even remotely interesting on the way home

Gave mine a good run out yesterday, slightly heavier than then sigma but still perfectly workable hand held from 10AM till 5 PM on the 1D :)

Oh definitely hand-holdable, but I find I'm getting a better return of sharper shots with the monopod and compared to a tripod it's no hassle to cart around.

Itake it you are enjoying the lens then, eh CT?
:D

You did also get the 2x didn't you?
