can anyone please advise me regarding the above lens, it is possible that i could end up owning this lens in a possible deal, at the moment the owner has kindly let me have it for a few days to try.
the date code is UU0915 i make this a 2006
he purchased it new in japan....ok now the dumb part, would this lens be any different to one purchased in the uk (i realise they all say made in japan on them)
also i would be wanting to use this lens amongst other things for motorsport, would this be suitable (do i need the IS) and could it be much improved with an extender....if so the 1.4 or the 2 x TC ???
thanks in advance for any help..

i tried it with a 2 x and wasn't happy with the results I was getting. I also found it hard to use as the 2 x really shifted the weight fowards....

The 1.4 should be better but won't give you the reach.

agree with above - the 1.4 is better, and if you get the MKII extenders you can stack them to get massive reach - I use a 1.4 stacked on a 2 with a 70-200 is MKII and get OK results - but the 70-200 is MKII is slightly sharper - so this may halp

I used the 70-200 2.8 IS L MkI with a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x converter and got some great results. AFAIK there will be no difference between the lenses and the only reason for the region difference is for the warranty purpose.

I've recently got the 70-200 MkII and that together with a 2x MkIII converter is excellent. There's very little IQ degradation and is very sharp from f5.6-f11 and the AF speed is still fast enough to capture BIF etc.

Thanks for the advice regarding the extender's...
I guess one thing that concern's me..
(due to a possible deal)
is the fact that being a japanese copy...does this make it any different or any less valuable than a uk copy ?
thanks again for any advice...
