Canon 6d v 5d mk iii

I am looking to get a second camera for landscape photography I have narrowed it down to either canon 6d or 5d mk iii does anyone use these cameras and what are the like . Thanks

I suggest the 6D is very suitable for landscape photography - I'm still using it thus. The 5D3 is a lot more versatile. (I have both.....)

I used to use both side by side and for landscapes would always pick the 6d up first, and it was always my main camera.

I have the 5D mkiii and very pleased with it, as Jerry says very versatile. Sorry cannot comment on the 6D as moved up from the 7D

Is your main camera still a Nikon d800?

And all your lenses Nikon fit ones?

I would go with the 5d3. As said before so versatile

5diii has all the fancy weather sealing vs none in 6d so that alone should answer the question

5dIII for sure - they are a really nice camera actually and I shoot Nikon.

I've been very pleased with my 6D, which I've owned for around 4 years now; it consistently produces good looking photos and has very good low-light high ISO performance. It's also quite small and light for a full frame DSLR. For the money they fetch on the used market these days it must make them something of a bargain. I certainly wouldn't pay more to change it for a 5D III, which is an older design, unless I desperately needed more AF points and focus speed, which is unlikely for landscape work. The only thing that would currently tempt me to upgrade my 6D would be a 5D IV. However, we're all different and I think perhaps the best way to decide would be to try both cameras in both good and challenging lighting conditions and compare the results, both in terms of image quality and user experience, handling and portability.

5d4 is an amazing camera - one my recent workshop clients turned up with one - the touch screen is a really nice touch and the raw files when we got the lap top fired up were really good and not a million miles off what would come of a D810 (which is a beast).

I believe it's a good camera, I do keep thinking about one, but as more than half my photography is currently done using film cameras I can't justify spending the money on an upgrade... well, that's what I keep telling myself! Plus I keep hoping Canon will bring out the next model with eye controlled focus, which I miss so much when I go back to the 6D after using my EOS-3 and EOS 30 film SLRs.

Love my 5Div, it's a better camera than I am a photgrapher.

If I had to choose between the 6D and 5Diii, it would be the 5D, mainly because it just does more better. The 6D is a lovely camera though, a friend of mine uses one and it has amazing image quality.

Guys, until the OP answers this question you are wasting your time.

Is your main camera still a Nikon d800?

And all your lenses Nikon fit ones?

His profile shows he owns a D800 and he has mentioned it in previous posts.

If this is the case a second landscape camera from a different manufacturer is madness.

OR, if he has switched to Canon, what Canon body do you currently own @telscossie ? Because as much as I liked the little 6d for landscapes, if your other Canon happens to be a 7dii for example, you are better off with the 5d3 as the muscle memory will be the same with identical layout etc. Also, the tomb joystick on the 5d3 is an asset moving around in live view.

I thought you were having a laugh with eye controlled focus in film cameras and had to have a search! Wow, sounds so much like future tech! Thanks for the info

Agree with Craig, depends on your current gear to an extent though I'd personally be going with the 5d if the price difference isn't an issue.

Yes, hard to believe this tech was available on prosumer and enthusiast grade Canon SLRs over 20 years ago! If you learnt how to use it and spent a bit of time calibrating it to your eye it was so quick and handy to use. So sod GPS, give me ECF as a feature instead on the next 5D model!
