Hi, Ive started to use my canon 650d for some video recording and Ive noticed I have real bad noise from the AF feature, Ive changed the settings from face detection to see if that would reduce the focusing and the noise but no luck
I've heard online that getting a microphone will reduce the noise, any advice or recommendations? Cheers Emma

What lens were you using. Only the STM lenses offer silent AF performance. All other lenses will produce focus noise as usual. I've used the 650D with the 40mm f2.8 STM lens and it's very quiet compared to other EF lenses. I'm sure a decent external mic will be the way to go but have a go at some manual focussing as well, it's quicker than the AF anyway.

Thanks for that! just checked out the canon 40mm STM lens and its defo much quieter! Just debating wether its worth getting that lens for just a few videos I'll be doing (youtube) as im mainly doing photography might be worth just adding my own audio in after on software and muting the audio captured. I'll have a think anyway got to many lenses I'm saving for lol! Thanks for the advice :-)

That's why I bought my 650d with the 18-135mm STM kit lens instead :) I later bought the 40mm too but those are the only two options if you want super quiet focus. Separate mic would be the only other option.

The lens if I get the 40mm STM is £169 the microphone is £130, Ive watched a utube video of the STM lens AF noise and its sooooo much quieter! would the microphone reduce the noise as much as the lens though?

you can get the 40mm stm from panamoz for 122-00 makes it a bit cheaper

Or DigitalRev have it at £119 with free posting at the moment. There are some going for around £110 on ebay but you have to shop around and keep your eye on feedback.
