Hi. has anyone managed to get a 5D3 to sync above 1/200 using YN622 (with the flash attached to the YN622 via PC sync). The second I go above 1/200 I lose half of the frame to one of the shutter curtains. My 60D will sync to well over 1/2000 with a tiny bit of darkening at the top of the frame.

Cheers

Ben.

Not sure about the PC sync bit. But I've managed to synch my 5d3 to about 1/1000+. My setup was yn622 on the hotshoe, the flash (430ex2) connected to another yn622. Flash set to hi speed synch. Worked a treat :)

Does it work if you take the 622 out of the equation using canons own wireless system? ( sorry I'm a nikon man, so I mean canons version of CLS)

Again, the nikons have to be set up in order for it to fire in HSS mode, is it safe to assume that canons need to be as well? And that your 60d is set up while the 5d isn't?

If none of that is relevant please ignore me

Without wanting to start a Canikon debate, the 5D3 does have a built in Wireless flash function.

In that case disregard my post :) I made an assumption and was obviously wrong :)

Hi there. The YN622 work in a couple of ways here, we might be at cross purposes.

Firstly it will support HSS, so as you say Chris you can get great sync speeds with this technology. However, HSS pulses light over the duration of the shutter - so doesn't freeze motion as well as a single burst of light would.

The YN622 also offers hypersync. In this case the camera has a YN622 mounted on the hotshoe and the flash has a YN622 connected via a PC sync lead. Flash is typically manual and set to 100%. With certain combinations of camera and flash the YN622 will then sync to up to 1/8000 without using HSS (i.e. there will be one single pulse of light). I can't get it to work with the 5D3, but can the 60D.

The YN622C-TX that is due to be released offers a degree of control over the settings within the YN622 that support this, the current YN622 offers no control and so it's a bit hit and miss.

Cheers
B.
