Hi all,

I have a new laptop that has Windows 7 and wish to use this for remote shooting with my Canon 5D in the studio. Simple you’d have thought…

I’ve downloaded the original EOS solutions disk v1 1.0 to the laptop, gone to the Canon site and updated all software individually. Rebooted. Nothing. Taken it off, put in on again. But the laptop continues to not recognise the camera. I read on another forum to change the Menu>Communications to PTP. Yes, the laptop finally recognises the camera but I don't want to download images, just use the laptop to view in the studio. P.S. The camera and remote shooting works fine with my PC but it's not very... portable.

On the other forum, there was an almighty debate on whether it was Microsoft's or Canon's fault. I'm not concerned really. Please, please, has anyone got any suggestions. As you can see from the above, I've tried most of the obvious...

Thanks in advance, Nick

Hi

Can't help specifically, but I've has similar issues when we bought our new laptop.

I could with no prob at all commect my old 300D on our old XP laptop, when we bought a new laptop with Vista on, couldn't get it to find the camera (had no issues later on in the process finding my 40D) at all, tried everything I could and it turns out the 300D drivers etc are not supported by Vista.

Incidently, I eventually managed to get it working by installing the 40D software and then rolling it back, BUT if I made any changes to the camera settings (not shutter, apert, etc) or connected the 40D - wouldn't find it again.

I suspect it could be the 5D is not supported by W7.

HOWEVER, I believe, (I don't know how!) you can dual boot W7 and run the pc as XP -> which would prob solve your problem.

Hope this is of some help ...
