I have an older computer with usb 2.0 and thinking of fitting a USB 3.0 card but I have read somewhere - cant remember that the 5D mkii is only capable of USB 2.0 speeds. So no point in plugging into the 3.0 usb if I get one.
Is that right ?
Thanks

The USB 3 (PCI?) card should be backwards compatible i.e. will run at USB 2 speed for kit that uses that protocol.

Thanks - I get that but wasn’t sure if the camera was 3.0 capable - turns out its not.
I actually quite like the slower speed and watching the image pop up in the preview screen as they get downloaded to the computer.

If you do want to download at a faster speed, you could use a card reader, as I’m sure you are aware.

Yep its just that I was getting a 3.0 pci card for faster back ups to an external HHD and was exploring if I also could benefit form faster speed from the camera but I would need a usb 3 cable but if the camera was usb 3 enabled then the cable supplied in its box would be usb 3 so there would be no need for me to buy one. But as its only USB 2 I will just stick with that.

I do not like the idea of removing the compact flash card and re inserting as a risk of bending the pins. But as I take advantage of he duel card slot I suppose I could just use the sd card with no pins instead.

I’ve had digital cameras since about 2001 and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve connected one directly to a pc.
