Just joined the forum, so hi & welcome all.
I've been looking forward to buying a new Canon 5D MkII for quite some time, and had the full intention of buying one at this year's Focus 2010 (hoping for a discounted one), however I've been reading the mags of late and a chap at the Hammersmith Exhibition said I should strongly consider the 7D (bit cheaper) but is the price variance relevant for the quality/use etc.
Little confused at the moment, what can you suggest?

Primarily Wedding photography, I also have a 1D MkIII which I love, but really interested in the 5D for the use of the High Def DVD to combine with the slideshows.

For weddings I would go for the 5d mkII, I have owned both and I prefer the image quality of the 5d by some margin. Although I'm sure the 5d would cope with sports the 7d would be the camera of choice for action but for low light/portrait etc I'd go 5d.

Hi Sandford,
Yes very much horses for courses! I have a 40D for sports stuff, its a crop and good FPS rate and a 5D for people stuff. I am hoping to upgrade to a 5DII but will keep the 40D.
The 7D is a fantastic camera but more aimed at sports/wildlife whereas the 5DII is a full frame camera more suited to portraiture and landscape work, It has a much slower FPS and the AF system is not as good as the 7D for what I have read. And of course the 5D is more expensive but also has video if that is your thing....

Both great, just choose the one that suits your subject matter!

With regard to flexibility I suppose this will depend on which side of the crop factor you need to bias your shots. If you need to go a little longer then the 1.6 crop of the 7d might be handy along side the 1.3 of the 1d. If it's a non issue then you may prefer the flexibility of the full frame and 1.3 for portraiture.

the 7d will AF as well as your 1d does, the 5dII will give amazing IQ

Up to you to make that choice

I did and went 5dII

Thanks all - 5D MkII it is - betting on best price (Body only) or kit (24-105mm which I do have already) hoping to get £1,600 or less - do you know any different?

PM Kerso via this thread. He sells loads of kit on here and is 100% reliable and genuine. I bought my 5D2 off him - It is from the US, but his UK invoice covers everything if there's a problem.
