Does anybody know what this is and how it might be fixed? It has suddenly appeared on my Canon 5D MK3. If you shoot portrait it slides mostly off the sensor so it is fairly loose.

IMO it seems to be a sticking/failing shutter.

AFAIK this is on the way to complete failure!

Yep, I'm afraid that you are going to need a shutter replacement.

CPS Elstree is going to be your best bet. Around £300 from memory, but I could be wrong in either direction! :)

Cheers, looks like a fun job, should be doable. Does anyone know of a UK supplier for the shutter assembly? Google only brings up AliExpress options.

I honestly wouldn't attempt that yourself - although you are perfectly free to.

Definitely a knackered shutter (rear curtain blade).

When I looked into replacing the shutter assembly on my 50D, the process looked pretty scary and included the need to realign the sensor. In the end, I got lucky and managed to ‘flick’ the shutter blade and it went back into position by itself. Otherwise it was going in the bin as it would have been uneconomic to fix. Good luck.

Yep, looks like a shutter failing.

A 5D3 is well worth repairing, may I suggest AJ Johnstone in Glasgow for a quote to compare witrh others you may get.

I've always had top service from them.

Ah, the people who ruined one of my lenses and didn't have to decency to tell me. They just sent it back, no phone call, no email and no explanation in the box. I had to ring them for an explanation.

I think the mark of a company is how they behave when things go wrong and as they behaved badly in my instance I've never used them since and never will again.

Sorry to hear that Alan and you can only go on a personal experience. That's the first I've heard of an issue with them. I've used them several times now with no problems. They're quite local to me and a few people I know use them too, without issue. One time I had to use them was for a warranted lens repair that I'd bought from HDEW. HDEW use them as their warranted repairers.

Hope you got it sorted. (y)

The lens was rendered a write off and is now an ornament in my bedroom. I dealt with them for years but lost faith after that. I'm a great believer that anyone can make a mistake as long as they behave well in the aftermath. Every time I dealt with them before that incident the coms was always good but when they banjaxed that lens nada from them just the box turning up unannounced and with no explanation.

I'm sorry you had to be the first to tell me of a bad experince with them Alan.

Points have been made so lets get back to helping the OP with their shutter problem. (y)
