Hi all,

My girlfriend was lucky enough to be given her brothers cast-off D5 Mk2 but unfortunately it was filthy.
I've sorted out the mirror and view finder.
I have tried to clean the sensor with a rocket, then dry swabs and finally wet swabs by Visible Dust all to no avail.

On close careful inspection it would appear the cause of the marks are a stain under the first layer of the sensor, is this possible and is it fixable?

I'll be sticking to my clean D810 ;-)

top left is the worse and shows clearly in this picture, doing a white sheet of paper at f16 is horrendous, I've never seem such a state.

Hi Simon, I had a similar issue with mine. I tried wet swabs etc but in the end it was sent away to Elstree Canon service centre. http://www.canon.co.uk/support/rcc/
It has been fine ever since.
Can I ask what that cost?
Because she isn't a photographer and was given the 5d (with 5 pro lenses) she doesn't want to spend much on it (hangs head in shame). I'm a semi pro but never had to have a camera serviced in 25 years apart from a broken hot shoe (mountainside plus rock, oops).

In the uk is £50 including VAT & shipping, they will clean the sensor, mirror, focusing screen, lcd, and update the firmware if required.

Any chance of some details who to contact, many thanks.

http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/repair.aspx Click on the tabs for the repair process, FAQ, repair form etc.

Just complete the repair form asking for a full frame sensor clean and send it off with the camera well packaged. if the sensor isn't damaged, then the cost will be £50. if it is damaged, then a new sensor is £450 according to the fixed price repair list on the same page.

Sorry Simon, I don't know as it was paid for by someone else.
