So after a bit of a saga the warranty on my broken 5d was honoured and I’ve been sent a replacement camera. But the charger is different and I’m slightly confused.

It’s the LC E6E charger. It has some orange lights and a solid green light. So I put battery in and quite quickly the light went green. So I thought that meant fully charged. I then put battery in camera and the bars on top panel weren’t at full. I checked battery info and said 62%. So I put back on charger for about 3 hours. The green light was on the whole time. When I put back in camera bars on top panel are at maximum but battery info only says 75%.

So I’m slightly lost now. I have no idea if battery info is usually accurate ? Is there a fault with the charger ? Or is the battery actually fully charged.

Tbh I’ve never actually used battery info before so no idea if it usually goes to 100% or not. My previous charger was very simple just has ascending bars that went off totally when fully charged.

Any insights be helpful.

It has been a while since I had my 5D mk 3 but IIRC it had that charger.

So, and though I cannot recall.......is the % figure you are seeing in 'battery info' the 'percentage of lifespan left' i.e. the battery condition and not comparable to %charge. Hence, yes the battery is fully charged but it's ability to take full charge is 65% of that of a brand new battery. IMO that means that in use it rundown more quickly compared to a brand new one in "100% condition".

Lastly, what date is on the battery? NB IIRC the label on the battery has it's manufacturing date.
 
I think the camera is faulty as there’s another issue. I’m going to start a separate thread.
