Having problem with the above flash not lighting the subject properly, may be the settings, Cameras 20 D and 5DMk 2 on auto flash set at ETTL. Please help

Have you put any exposure compensation on?

a sample image or two might help.
 
too much light or not enough?
 
Yes new batteries, have what looks like vignetting around the edge of the shots making the edges of the shots very dark

Could you try the same shot again but increase the ISO?
 
what zoom do you have the flash set to?
 
Lens 17-85 & 24.105, zoom set to auto when on ettl

have you got any exposure compensation set??

do you have a sample image you can post?
 
have you tried dropping down the little "wide-angle" adaptor flap?
