Canon 550d

I currently have a loan of a 550d which i really like but the seller wants £300 with a 18 55 in 18 250mm cannon lens. I really like the camera but would anyone recomend anything diffrent. Really like canon so would prefer to stay with the same brand. budget 400

I am out of touch with Canon models now.

But I would suggest checking prices at MPB.com to see if what he wants is reasonable or not.....bearing in mind that with MPB as far as I know you would get a warranty....for peace of mind?

Look on ebay at completed auctions and see what they are worth.
The 550 is OK, but it lacks many things that the 650 on have,

18-250??? There is an 18-135 and an 18-200. Both are good lenses. Make sure all the lenses are IS

If everything is in excellent condition, the price is OK, but not special, assuming the lenses are IS.

550D was released in 2010, so it's a 12 year old camera, I would look for something a bit more recent, especially if you would prefer a flippy rear screen over the fixed screen of the 550D.

I would put the values at roughly 550D £75, 18-55 £40, Sigma 18-250 £130.
I would expect lower from a private sale. I was recently offered £50 for a 550D and £25 for an 18-55 IS lens.


When yo say nature, does that include birds and small wildlife? The 18-250 may give you a taste, but you would soon want longer.
The 18-55 is OK, but a 70-300 may be a better companion to it. From that is may be better to look at buying the setup separately.

On your stated budget, the 550 is probably as good as you will get. The 650D is basically the same with a swivel touch screen, and the 800d will use you budget up on just the camera.

Only my feelings on it, I changed from Canon to Panasonic M43 about a year ago

That sounds a good idea The 750 is almost the same as the 800 in features.

The best 70-300 lens I had (and I still have it) was a Tamron, there were some posts mentioning them the other day.
The Canon is good, but found the Tamron better, both the stabiliser and image..
