Canon 550D with Meike LCD battery grip

Good evening.
I have a question that I really would love an answer to please. I recently purchased a meike LCD grip for my 550d and wondered why it won't operate with a genuine canon LP E8 battery but will with other aftermarket batteries. If I remove the grip and refit the canon battery and battery cover it works perfect.
Now wondering wether I should use my grip or not

I had a Meike grip, without the LCD, on my 550D and it's now on the wifes' 650D and I've never had any problems with it at all. I can't see why it wont work with the genuine battery but I've bought a few 3rd party batteries from ebay and they all work as well as the Canon one, if not better, and are only a few pounds. It might be worth getting a few to keep the grip going, or you could contact Meike and see what they recommend.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to contact meike and see what they say. I do have two aftermarket batteries which are excellent so will use the grip once I have spoke to meike.
