Hi there

Used to do a lot of photography until about 2 years ago when I lost interest and sold all my gear - Nikon D90, kit lens, and 70-300 lens.

However, recently, I have been getting an urge to get back into it again.

My workmate has a Canon 550D and he took it into work last week for me to have a go of and I love it. Felt a bit better to hold than the D90 and to be honest there is nothing in the Nikon range that interests me for my budget (£700 max)

I'm tempted to go with the 550D with kit lens and then look at getting either the 55-250mm lens or the 70-300mm lens.

Other option is to spend a bit more on the body and get the 600D or 650D.

Opinions?

I have the 550d, bought it about two years ago. Can't really pinpoint any major faults, just a few niggles.

That being said i've never tried the other two, i just use what i got.

I doubt you can go wrong with any of the 18MP Canon's from an IQ point of view.

I have the 600D, and would recommend it, the swivel screen can come in very handy.

I started out with a 550D and loved it (only recently sold it) and after upgrading to other bodies I gave the 550D to the wife, who also really enjoyed using it. It has a good set of features but you might soon find yourself wanting a bit more.

When the 650D was released I bought one for the wife, and being used to the 550D, got straight down to it. The extra fps, the higher ISO, the all cross point focus, the flip screen and touch screen and the ability of wireless off camera flash mean it's reallt feature packed and IMO a much better buy than either the 550D or the 600D. I bought hers from www.panamoz.com (who now have their own thread further down the main page) and at a price of £563 with an 18-55 IS lens is well worth the extra saving up.
