Yes
hi, iv made my mind up after and sum research and a think that i want the canon 550d and currently in currys the price is around £850 reduced from around £1000, but after lookin on ebay i have noticed a canon kiss x4 from japan but also some seller selling from london,
im wondering if thease cameras are the sae as the uk canon 550d? and if so why are they so cheep thers some for under £400 with 2 lenses or buy it now for around 600... why are thease soo cheep? seems to good to be true,
should i buy 1?
any advise would b great thankyou

Its the Asian/Japanese version, same camera but different branding. You wont get a genuine Canon Warranty with one.

ah is it, oh rite but may just risk it for the price that way i could get the 550 camera 2 lenses plus id be able to get the 50mm lens and a flash gun for around the same price or evan cheeper than just a camrea and 1 lens.
ohh desisions, but its a good thing that with currys u can pay an extra £26 for a 3 year insurance and get a instant replacement as a done it with me last one after the clip what holds the batterys snaped and ended up gettin the next model up, so supose thats a good thing, but maybe ill get a years warrenty anway? or maybe its different .
thankyou

Im sure jessops or even john lewis will be cheaper then currys,
I wouldnt get the kiss ones off ebay rather get it from a shop and get proper warranty

The 2 lens kit can be had for £50 cheaper again (at the time of writing)

Be worth asking Kerso on here, he'd probably undercut that and keep a Canon UK warranty

Be aware that the 600D was announced this week, so the 550D is on borrowed time. You might be lucky and pick up a "end of the line bargain" ?
Either that or you may decide to go for the 600D.

Why?

Digital Rev offer a door to door warranty service and you could save a fortune!

yeah your totally right! i think ill b better buyin just the camera body for around 500 and getting the warrenty and the 3 yr accidental cover just incase, and if anything happens ill of saved £500 straight away! and ill just get a 50mm lens to start with.
think its the 18-55mm lens with that camera,

thanks for that link looks a good buy and would save money in the longrun, :-) and just buy my self the cheep 50 mm lens with that, thanks

i meant like a proper shop just like digital rev,, but as he was comparing currys i thought it would be better to compare with other high street stores

digitalrev also have the canon kiss bundles would i be better buyin it off them that way id get the canon warrenty and ther shop warrenty? and its cheeper than currys.
but they mite evan be listed on ebay for cheeper? i really cnt make my mind up thort i had but keep seein sumthing better or cheeper and back to the start ahhh!

I just bought a Kiss 4X (550D) from digital rev, turned up in 4 days so can't fault the service. I did get stung for £35 import duty on top of the cost of the camera, but even with that it's still miles cheaper.

I'm sure Digital Rev allow you to claim back any import taxes you may incur, don't they?

If you bought direct from thier site yes, if Ebay, only if it says so, which it will on the bottom of the page.

It depends on the listing, some of them you can but they tend to be about £35 more expensive, so I took a chance on the cheaper one an ended no worse off. It usually says clearly in the listing if they include the duty in the price.

Okay, you basically have 3 options.

DigitalRev are based in Hong Kong, you pay the price on their website and they send the camera from HK. This is what is known as a grey import, Canon UK will not touch it - hence DigitalRev give you a warranty.
They also pre-pay the import duty/VAT that the goods are liable for when they are imported.
They have good feedback on here (look in their dedicated section), I have no personal experience.

Kerso (mentioned above) is also very well regarded on here. He imports stuff from the USA and ships it to you from Scotland, so no worries about duty/VAT etc.
You pay him to a UK bank account and he provides a UK receipt, which means Canon UK will warranty the camera, if it goes wrong you send it to them.

High Street/Online - The most expensive way, but its the default route. Canon UK warranty and obviously the price you see is the price you pay.
If you see a price that is much cheaper than the other shops its likely that its a grey import and may not have warranty (unless the shop specifically offer one). Watch out for Amazon marketplace sellers doing this.

thats great help thanks, whos kerso is it a website? or person? do i get intouvh wiht him on hear? i would rarther have warrenty thankyou

Like that^

I hope you are being ironic?

Mmm, I think the 550D will be around for sometime yet, the 500D is still on sale and that's with the 550D being out for nearly a year now, although I'm sure as with all things electrical, the older they are the cheaper they get (just like me!)

They're keeping the 550D around for a while yet, especially as the 600D seems to be basically the same camera hardware wise just with a flip out screen

I've recently got a Kiss x4 (550d) from DV and have no complaints at all! It's exactly the same as my mates 550d, except it has a different badge on the front. DigitalRev offer a warranty too so no worries abotu not having a Canon one.
