a friend and i spent an hour or 2 testing these lenses with a 40D and 400D today. I have to say the results were unexpected. whilst the 70-300 lens is slightly sharper in the centre, the edges are terrible compared to the 55-250. also the 55-250 is very consistent across the whole plane. we were suprised as the 70-300 is nearly twice the price
