Canon 52mm drop in filter

I recently bought a very well used 300mm F2.8 is. It works fine but on examining the drop in glass filter there are a few scratches on it. Nothing serious but as these are close to the sensor I would like to get a replacement. I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to find them for sale.Does anyone know where they can be purchased. The filters are just a circle of clear glass without any threads.

Cheers, I have the unit just need the wee bit glass. I can butcher a 52mm screw in but seems a bit extreme

Anybody got any idea where to get a wee 52mm circle of glass rather than fork out £100

Remove the glass from the holder

I might try that but according to what I have read it is part of the optical formula of the lens. Nothing to lose so I will give it a go next time out

Don't these holders take the complete screw in filter?

There is a version that takes screw in filters but I have the original one.
