Not sure what your looking for with this thread have you got a 50mm F1.4 or a 50mm F1.8
the F1.4 is a vastly superior lens
as for tips to using it obviously in low light use wider apertures outside in brighter weather stop it down and see whats works for you
your question whats the best way to use it really gives no indication of what you like to shoot and whether your a complete novice
For me a fast 50mm has always been about what can be done with shallow depths of field. I find the focal length rather too 'uninteresting' otherwise. For many photographers, their 50mm will be their fastest lens by some distance.
So chuck the thing wide open, wait for some nice light in the garden, and get some jaunty angles going on anything you fancy photographing.
Taking the above as sarcasm:
Given the honestly quite pointless question you gave (tantamount to a very slightly more specific form of 'how do I take good photos?'), don't get het up when someone doesn't give a serious do-it-all answer.
In any case, the only proviso I give on 50s is on full frame where they can sometimes have perspective distortion crop up when people try to get too close. That and watch for CA, it crops up a lot on Canon's 50 f/1.4 when wide open. I've always shot mine pretty much wide open but I've shot it on a 5D so the perspective is very different. I have an 85 1.4 which is closer to your 50 on a crop, and with that I'd say stick mostly to portraiture. It's a lovely length but just don't expect it to do everything.
