Just wanted know if there is anyone using the 50mm f/1.2 on this forum and what they think of it? Be nice if anyone had the canon 50mm f/1.4 and would share their thoughts?

Cheers

Alan

I've had the 50/1.4 and replaced it with the 50/1.2. I found that the f/1.4 vignetted too much on a full frame body. The f/1.2 is nice sharp lens but lacks the stunning bokeh of the 85/1.2. Mine also has the focus shift problem but it's not a issue for my usage. I find the 85 a little long on a crop body so the 50L fills in nicely if I haven't got the 5D with me.

I am not rich enough for the 1.2 so the 1.4 is what I've got almost permanently welded to the front of my 40D. I can't comment RE the vignetting issues but the review for the 1.4 on dpreview.com seemed to suggest that the 1.4 is slightly better on crop bodies.

Anyhoo, I am delighted with the lens, absolutely chuffed. The 1.6x crop factor on the 40D makes the lens a nice little portrait lens, the bokeh is to die for, it's like cream.

I can't imagine what the 1.2 is like wide open, when I open up the 1.4 all the way the depth of field is like a razor slash across the picture.

I love my 85 1.2, my most used lens since i purchased it. Pictures are just great and the bokeh is just stunning. I thought i get a 50 1.2 as i have limited space in my house to take pictures of my kids as the reach on the 85 is a tad too much on my 5D.

I have the 50mm 1.4 but don't notice the vignetting much even at 1.4 as i don't normally look out for vignetting.
