A Googling says it is the Canon ES-65 version needed........................but this is it seems like hens teeth, afteral the 50mm Mk1 is now a very old lens.

Hopefully whoever you bought 'the wrong one' from can suggest an possible updated alternative?

HTH

PS This one is for the 50mm MK2 https://store.canon.co.uk/canon-es-62-lens-hood/2645A001/?nav=accessories,lensaccessories,lenshoods

But no idea is compatible with the older Mk1 version???

Thanks, I ordered an es-68 equivalent, which is apparently for the stm version, I read somewhere it was suitable for all, but I have just noticed the original 50mm doesn't have a bayonet, just the screw thread. Off for another look!

I've not bothered for one on ours, but a did see a collapsible third party rubber one once.

Shouldn’t really need one. The front element is pretty deep in the body.
