Ok, somehow I've convinced Mrs.Hyakuhei that me upgrading my camera before Xmas is a good thing.

I'm interested in the 50D can anyone tell me if there are any issues with the current breed of 50D bodies that I should be aware of? It is well known that some of the 40D's are quite soft - perhaps this is why the 50D comes with micro focus adjustment?

Just a thought, thanks for your input

One major issue is that the huge megapixel count means its very vulnerable to softness caused by diffraction. Read the review at The Digital Picture - it's reckoned that diffraction starts to be an issue before even f/8.

With all these problems with DSLRs, is there actually a decent one out there?

For exactly the reason that Stewart highlights, I wouldn't consider that it's suitable for landscapes. I don't want to get embroiled in another resolving power discussion but I think you should see it as a modest pixel increase over your 30D and not almost doubling them.

Back to the first question....mine's around 700 shots old without any obvious problems so far.

Thanks for the replies guys, so far I haven't heard any deal breakers :woot:

I know that some of the reviews out there are pretty poor, especially bang for buck against the 40d. Personally I love my 50d. It is sharp throughout, great to hold, the LCD is lovely and clear. I upgraded from my 450d and I'm glad I did. Can't knock it so far.

I am going to be trying some landscapes soon, so am interested in the comments above.

A friend of mine has just got one and he likes it that mutch he is thinking of selling his 1dsmk3:D I may be upgrading my 1dsmk2 prety soon:thumbs:

Can't say i've used my 50D much yet, had it a month but since i've had it i've had loads of pc problems / upgrades etc, add to that work, which means i've not had time to test it properly yet. But from the few shots i've taken so far, it's a good upgrade from my 30D, but i don't think i would go out and pay what it costs now for it again.

Really chuffed with my 50D. The high pixel count means you really need high quality glass to get the best from it, but that was always going to be the case.
