I have been trawling the web and camera forums for some time, to try to find a way of finding the shutter actuations on my Canon 500D. Today I’ve found one that actually worked, it’s an Active X control, which I ran through Malware Bytes and Eset security suite before installing, it came up clean.
Besides the 500D it does numerous other Canons.

This is the link to the FAQ page where you can get the download (click on install manually).

Once you’ve run the download go to the Home page, connect your camera and turn it on and you have your shutter actuations.

Best way that I know of is to just take a picture with it! Shutter number comes up in the picture viewer!

That's all well and good until you reach 9999.............. then it resets to zero. Also when you insert another SD card it resets to zero.

I suppose you could always keep track with a pen and paper though, lol.

I found an exif reader online and took a photo, shutter count in exif
Does that reset to zero after 9999? Dunno

nope! ive rolled over 1k, theres a set of numbers on the playback!

i dont ever plan on getting rid of my 500d, so its neither here nor there! :)

Thanks for this, it is very useful! My camera has done a lot less than I originally thought. I've had it since 2009 and it's got 27215 to it's name.
