Canon 500d Flash

Hi

Looking to buy a cheap flash for my canon 500d.

looking at canon 270.
i like the idea of the flash to have ttl and fit on the hot shoe

Any ideas on any others, wanted to spend no more than £70-80 tops.

Just basic indoor use and portraits.

270EX is a great little flash, tiny thing, and more powerful than suggested by the spec, because of the way guide numbers are published for bigger guns with longer zoom heads. It also does high speed sync, which no other guns offers at that price level - very useful for fill-in outdoors. You might have to move quickly, 270EX is now 270EXII (has remote slave facility) but is more expensive.

The big drawback with the 270EX is that it only does basic ceiling bounce, but that will usually cover most things. Get a Stofen-type diffuser cap (fiver from Amazon).

If you want to do more things, Nissin or Jessops guns are popular.

very good value for money, and you can use bounce flash... which is infinately nicer than direct
