Does anybody know where I can get a 77mm one of these for under £120, I've seen some using Google's shopping search but I haven't heard of most of the sites selling them so not sure how reliable they are.

Thanks

Not in 77mm no. I got a 58mm one for £40 off the forum here. Might be worth putting up a wanted post.

When I was looking the cheapest I found in was Microglobe 500D 77mm - but they are £125.23 so not quite under your limit, but a decent company to deal with.
Just looked again and found Bristol Cameras have them for £119 inc vat - but not dealt with them before???

Thanks for the links, will probably stretch my limit and get it from one of them.

The 500D is a +2 achromatic (or double element) close up filters, while there are some amazing other options around of smaller sizes (from people as diverse as Leica and their Elpros, through to Raynox and their DCRs), due to the two elements they can be very expensive. have a look at...

Marumi make a +3 and +5 but make sure you look at the achromat, the single element units are a lot cheaper and inferior…

Currently there is a +5 achromat on eBay at £85.30 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/77mm-MARUMI-D...hoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN
To compare there is the same unit at Microglobe for £166 - http://www.microglobe.co.uk/catalog...=marumi-dhg-close-up-achromat-200-5-77mm-lens

The trick with close up lenses is to remember that the final effect will be 100cm divided by the dioptre. So the +5 is quite a strong lens and will take the working distance of your lens down to around 20cm (100/5=20cm), as compared to the 50cm you would get with the 500D (100/2=50cm). It is not as severe as the Raynox DCR-250 which is +8 so again it is 100/8=12.5cm working distance - hope this helps.

Example, this was a +4 Minolta CL49-200 fitted on a Canon G11, the lens is very strong and is possibly closer to +5, this unit is 49mm in size

For info this is with the +8 Raynox, on a G11 again, focused at 12.5cm zoom lens at 140mm
