Looking for a new Canon lens to replace my current Tamron 70-300mm.

Have seen the 55-250mm or 75-300 for around £100 - £125 online. Is this generally too good to be true, or a good deal?

Dont mind it being second hand, but some seem to be new too.

Cheers guys & girls

If you can live with the loss of 50mm at the long end then the Canon 55-250 IS is an absolute cracker of a lens for the price. I eventually sold the one I had when I went to only having a 5D3 as it wouldn't fit. After I got a 'crop' body camera as a backup/alternative to the 5D3 I now use a Canon 70-200 f2.8L and extender but I would have used the 55-250 a lot if I'd kept it.

The 75-300 MkIII non IS lens was the first long zoom I got, at christmas 2010, and it turned out to be the worst lens I've ever had/used. The Tamron 70-300 you've got would be a far better option so ask yourself 'do I NEED a replacement', is there something wrong with your Tamron to need replacing.

I've never had the 75-300 but I've yet to hear a good thing about it.

The 55-250 on the other hand was a great lens. It served me well until I needed something longer.

I haven't used the Tamron either though so I couldn't tell you whether that's better than the 55-250.

I borrowed a 55-250L for my last trip to Oulton, and the autofocus was so rapid on it, was a cracking lens, but out of my price range for now.

And the loss of 50mm at the end didnt affect me in the slightest. The tamrom I have has been a great budget lens, just fancied something better and quicker :)

Thanks for the info guys
