I've recently started doing some in door macro stuff, smoke, liquid drops all the favs really. I am using a 50D and 430EX with the cheapo ebay triggers. I'm having a laugh doing it but fancy trying a 2nd flash. Been offered a 2nd hand 430ez for £25. Is it worth it and would it work ok with the pt-04tm triggers? I know not to use it on camera but it seems a cheap way to have a play with two light sources.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure only 'ex' guns have wireless capability.

Afriend of mine used to use 3 430ez guns but had the cable system which is expensive.

Don't the flashes mount on a sort of hotshoe (kind of thing) on the receiver? If so, the flash would need to be in manual anyway, so it wouldn't matter what the flash is. It looks very much to me as if it would work and, at £25 it's well worth a go.

The problem with the 430EZ is that it goes into sleep mode after 90 seconds, which would be a right pita....

It would be in manual anyway if it'll work i'm tempted:)

It would be close to me so i guess i'd just have to hit the test button..

Thanks both:thumbs:

Eeeek. Only just saw this. I bought a 430EZ to use with ebay triggers on manual (paid £40 for mine thinking it was a cheap option).

Be warned it would not sync on shutter speeds faster than 1/30th. I ended up re-selling it (got my money back - phew) and bought a Cactus KF-36 instead.
Apparently the older flashes don't sync too well with digital.

Might have been my triggers (CTR-301's) but they work fine on the 430EXII and the Cactus flash.

There are all sorts of issues with using Canon flashguns for Strobist work, but I can't see why the shutter speed would have any impact on whether it worked or not..

EDIT:There seems to be a workaround.....

I just found my original thread. It was a 420EZ i bought not a 430EZ so you might be ok :)

Thanks guys:thumbs: for the sake of £25 it's got to be worth a punt!

I use the 430ez all the time on location and for small stuff the 90sec time out a lil annoying but i get over it by just taking a photo or triggering them every 60 seconds or so. Dont realy bother me.

As for £25 its a barin i payed £40-60 each for mine!!!

Also i dont think they will work wireless with canon system but if you buy ebay triggers for about £30 they work fine also if you put a hot shoe on them with a sync port you can always use a sync cable or even have them as a slave with hot shoe that triggers via light from your other flash

Also mine are ok up to 1/200th.

Hope this helps and if i was you id buy them!

I use one (albeit with Pocketwizards) and it works a treat :) It does turn off as said, but if you're close or shooting quickly it isn't a problem! Or of course, you can just remember to press the test button every so often...for £25, may as well eh!
