I've been using manual flashes for a while now I'm after a flash to take the guess work out of it. I've got the money for either a new nissin di622 or a used canon 430ex, just looking for some advice on which one.

the lights are so strong on the 622 (on the back of the flash), that you will attract attention, no chance to be subtle with this flash on, also the high pitch whine is infuriating, and the menu system is...well there is no menu system

get the 430ex
 
I have 5 Di622's both Mk 1 and Mk2 and they are a very good flash for the money. I like the Mk1 better than the Mk2 and unless you need a sync port the Mk 1 would be my preference for about £50 used.
 
I'm happy with my 430 ex II, used it a few times. Can't comment on the other one you're looking at.
 
Is it the 430ex or the exII?

I don't know why I'm asking I have none of them, but in your shoes, I'd go for a new Nissin over a 2nd hand Canon.
