Hello all,

I've owned this flash for nearly a year now and I never use it because I'm a bit scared to try and use it. However, I've decided to stop being an eejit and just get on with it.

However, whilst watching a video on how to use this particular flash, the tutor said that it's a slave flash only.

So, being a complete noob to flash photography, am I right in thinking that I won't be able to fire this flash externally on my 6D as it has no built in master flash?

If so, what would people recommend as I'm probably going to need to buy a master flash??

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

You can use it on camera via the hotshoe or off camera using an extension cord. As a slave it just means it can't be used to control other flasguns. Actually it can but they would need optical slave hotshoes, just that isn't the way Canon see it working.

Short answer: get a set of Yongnuo 622 radio triggers, about £70. Full remote E-TTL mastering via radio

Thanks guys! Those Yongnuo 622 radio triggers are a nice alternative to buying another pricey flash.

Cheers for the info too!

I would be tempted to buy a Canon 90EX

I have one, it works very well on my 5D3 as both a pocket flash and controller of my other 420 ex guns, sits much better on teh camera than either my macro light (which can be a master) or my 550 (which can also be a master).
