Canon 40MM pancake. £150 inc.

digitalrev did the review on it. it looks really, really good ! especially I suppose if you have fullframe.
finally though ! I thought that canon has forgotten that primes exist as well.

Wow, that's a big price drop in a month time gap. £229 to £150. I'm now tempted to get it :)

From the DigitalRev site:

What is STM?

These lenses are the first to feature Stepping Motors (STM). Stepping motors use a different method to rotate compared to ordinary USM. The result is smoother and quieter focusing, ideal for filming. You can hear STM while filming, but this sound should be quiet enough not to be recorded. The drawback to STM is it is slower to focus then USM; so less suited to action shots, but still very useable for amateurs.

They are sending a lens valued at £140 by 1st Class Recorded? :cuckoo:

lol, did you not see the 5dmk3 thread? lol, they sent one of those via it :-) £48 insurance:D

haha ! fantastic ! just to save 4-5 pounds :D

I can understand sending something that costs 100-150 pounds via 1st recorded. as personally I've never had a lost one. so if they see that they can send 2000 lenses and save 3000pounds by having a few lost ones - it's liable.

you have been lucky, Recorded delivery just means the postman is supposed to get a signature when he delivers, the parcel gets chucked into the normal mail stream and takes its chances. There is no tracking or control anywhere along the route and if you aren't home when they try to deliver it can just be put back into the delivery system until it gets back to the sorting office.

Compare that to SD, it never enters the normal stream, is signed for on every handover and is stored securely at every stop.

Over £50 I don't think I would dream of sending Recorded if I'm taking responsibility for the delivery.

I've sent loads of things and never had anything go missing , had a close shave with 1st class recorded that took 7 days.

Knew someone who sent a laptop via special delivery that went missing ,royal mail did everything not to pay up,ended up in court ,and they settled.

Places do all they can to wriggle out of not paying up.

Can't wait to get my pancake :)

yeah ! the recorded one is a gimmick ! I only use it when I feel that the buyer might be cheeky, happens sometimes in the bay.

The number of recorded items I've found in my postbox (or even on the floor under the box) and not had to sign for make me paranoid of sending Recorded to any eBay buyer, there are far too many on there that love trying it on.

Ooo, I was looking at this lens a few weeks back.

I wanted something to use for recording budget short video clips.
I was looking at this lens because I'm finding the cheap 50mm 1.8 not great for video, it's a bit tight on a crop sensor. And the focus ring is in an awkward place, and not smooth for manual focus.

This 40mm lens looks great. Slightly less of a tight view at 40mm. And the focus ring looks easily reachable, and is supposed to be much smoother.
The only negative point would be its 2.8 not 1.8, but in reality, I'm never ever going to record a video at 1.8, probably not even at 2.8.

It came, seems ok, dialed in +5 on lens adjustment though after looking at a focus chart, pics of plants were on 0
