Hi
Looking to buy my first mid level DSLR and I'm tawn between two, Canon 40d and Nikon D90.
Please help!

Canon comes with EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens
Nikon with 18-105 VR Kit lens

They are both much the same price around £900 and both have pros and cons but I'm unsure which to pick

Look forward to your comments

handle both and see which feels better in your hand!

Try them both... then go and buy a 40D... ;)

They're both great cameras - a friend of mine has the Nikon and loves it, I've just bought the Canon and love it.

I'd also really recommend going down the second-hand route since you can get a good condition 40D for less than half of what you're looking at which should allow you to buy the lens that suits you best rather than whatever is included in a deal.

I don't know Nikon, but the Canon 40d is well though of, although discontinued now I think.

The lens has a fairly favourable review here

In all honesty, you may find better value buying lightly used on forums such as these. I have had all four of my bodies used and usually less than half their new price. All have been indistinguishable from new bar a few finger prints and the like. And all my lenses are second hand too, although the good ones don't drop in value at anything like the same rate.

i don't know anything about the canon, but i really like the nikon d90 feel, menus and ISO capabilities is really good

I have a Nikon D70, and am caught in the trap of wanting to upgrade and don't know whether to stick to Nikon and go to a D90, or swap to Canon and go to a 40D. I have an 18-55 kit lens, a 50mm prime lens and an 18-105 zoom which I bought, so altho a pain wouldn't be too much of a headache to swap makes...

I bought my D70 a while ago when they first came out, and with little knowledge bought it on the premise of feel and touch. I am now not sure that was the correct decision, and would rather not make a similar mistake again!

Decisions, decisions...

This calls for a....
