Canon 40D frame counter

There's a menu option called 'File numbering', make sure this is set to 'Continuous' (it's in the first of the yellow menus.

Format a CF card and copy the last file you have back to the card, place the card back in the camera and take another shot. File numbering should continue from the number of the that file.
 
You might have taken 10,000 shots and it has reset back to zero but the folder will now be numbered 101 rather than 100. At 20,000 the folder will number 102 and so on.
 
That makes more sense. I use Downloader Pro to rename the files from IMG_ to show the folder number 100_ etc. I forget that it's not the default naming convention.

No way! I'm an old Velvia user and still have the frugal habits of old!

I've done about 3000 shots in the last year.;)
