How can you just "send it back" surely you have opened the packaging and used the camera which would void your rights under the distance selling regulations.

( Ahh, second post, so you found a dead pixel. that was fortunate )

Can you tell me how you got on with the dead pixel thing. I bought a Canon 40D from Jacobs at Focus On Imaging. Got it home and it had a dead pixel straight out of the box. I called them and they said they would not replace it as it has to be at least 2 dead pixels for Canon to exchange it.

Needless to say this is now my 1st and last time I will deal with Jacobs.

I had a similar experience with J Lewis with a sony television a while back. Not wanting to be beat I looked on the net and discovered the "industry standard" regarding dead pixels, checked the colour of the dead pixel and IIRC it depended on whether the pixel was white or red as to whether it was acceptable or not under the industry standard, I don't remember which colour was not acceptable.
I rang back and quoted this and after a some discussion in the background they agreed and I was sent a replacement.

After a bit of brain activity I seem to recall it was a red pixel, the tv was a 32 ins, but annoyingly it was right in the middle of the screen.

Thats awful.
If it were Jessops, we probably would have given you a new one ;)
A loyal, happy customer is more important than exchanging a camera.

Now I sound like I'm brown nosing :p

I've got the same on the rear LCD on my 40D too, Jacobs also said there had to be 2 or more for it to be faulty. I bought it as B-grade at a huge discount, and since it doesn't affect the pictures I'm just going to live with it.
