Hi,

Is it possible to have the AF/On button on the back set to AI servo or AI Focus, whilst having the normal shoot button and lcd panel set on OneShot ?

Tried fiddling with the custom settings without success?

Hmm why? if you put the camera on AI focus.. then it automatically goes into servo mode if the subject moves. does that cover your circumstances? :)
 
Yea, Cocker, why would you want to do that? It's easily enough changed the normal way?
 
As happened at the local drag race last week, one second am a shooting static people/cars and recomposing out of the af points, next minute cars racing down the track tracking with AI.

Would be nice to be fully AI on the back or use the shoot button on it's own without touching anything else.

Thought it was possible on the 1DS?
 
The simple solution is to use AI servo, focus, let go of the AF-On button, recompose and take the shot - but you'll have to set CFIV-3 so the shutter button doesn't start the AF.

AI-Focus, btw - can be a bit slow on spotting subject movement and won't let you take a shot unless it's got focus locked which can be frustrating at times.
