Ive had this lens for about 6 months, and whilst it's a great lens I don't really use it that much. So Im thinking of selling and getting say a Canon 200mm lens which I would use for outdoor photography mainly of dogs in action. And adding a decent portrait or Macro lens depending on whats left in the kitty.-
I have tried using the 400mm for this type of work but whilst the images are sharp I don't really need the length and find it a little cumbersome.
My main requirements are as we would all like Im sure a fast lens that works well in reasonable light.
Any ideas please?

70-200 f/4L? Tack sharp lens, nice and light.

The 70-200mm F4 IS is available used for a little less than you 400mm would likely sell for. Excellent for dogs in action and portrait work. Takes a 1.4x converter very well too.

But not as sharp as either the 200 f2.8 prime or the 70-200 f2.8...

Depends which 70-200mm F2.8...
