Canon 350D

hi there I am new to this forum. I have just purchased a Canon 350 D and an Ultrasonic 17-85 lens. Previously I have been using film for the past 40 years and with Minolta cameras. One thing I can recommend is the official Canon "A" graded camera equipment which is on the E-bay shopping. Go to Google type in "Canon_uk1" and select the Canon site not any others. All of the goods have a 12 months warranty and are auction bided
Has anyone used the Canon Raw software that comes with this camera or the updated v2.0.3 that is available from their site.?
I found it ok but not that user friendly.

Also has anyone downloaded the Pixmantec Rawshooter? I can certainly recommend it .There is an Essentials version and at the moment the professional version for free ,provided you are happy to enter your details in the boot up screen everytime you use it.It is upgradable on site at a price which does look good value.

Most of the members here use Photoshop CS2, Elements or the either of the two Rawshooter packages that you have mentioned. There are many threads on the latter two discussing many things about both. If you use the forum search function I am sure you will be able to find all manor of information. With regards to Essentials, once installed it should not require any details each time you start it up, I have used it many times before switching to the Premium version and have only ever had to give it my details when it was first installed.

The Canon software that you also mentioned has had many improvements made to it during its lifecycle and as far as free software that comes supplied with cameras, it is one of the better packages, however it is not so simple to use and its workflow is not as quick, easy and in my opinion its output is not as good as either of the Pixmantec software packages.

I dont care for the Canon software, not that its good or bad, I just prefer Photoshop CS2 & RawShooter.
 
Welcome to the 350D club. Not happy with Adobe as they have provided a plug-in for RAW for CS2 but not for Photoshop CS. I would recommend DxO well worth the investment for processing images that matter. Adjusts for the lens and camera, and although it takes its time processing the results are excellent. It does what it says on the box.
