Hi,

Anybody here be able to tell me if Canon are going to release a new version of the 300mm f/2.8 IS? I'm slowly but surely getting the money together for one and would like to buy the newer version if possible..Tanx...:)

I'm sure that sod's law dictates the very second you give up waiting and splash out, the MKII will me announced.

In all honesty I can't imagine improving this one can be top of their list. I asked the Canon rep at Focus this year about when we'd see an updated 100-400 and a 24-70 MK II IS, and he implied they'd be on their way soon.

Cheers for that Phil.I had only bought my 70-200mm f/2.8 IS two years ago and they release a Mark II version. I'm not gonna get bitten a second time and will hang on to see what they do, as i read somewhere they were supposed to test a Mark II version of the 300mm f/2.8 IS at the world cup...Could be chipshop talk though...;)

Hmm - I understand the doubt - I have the new 70-200 & it's my favourite lens. Having said that it's only wide open at the long end where the difference is significant despite the fact it is better throughout.

In true Canon tradition, if (and when) the mkII is released, it is likely to be quite a price hike over the MkI - just look at the MkII 70-200 f2.8!
