looking into buying a second hand canon 300mm 2.8 lens,
price about £1,200,

what i want to know is i know it goes up to 300mm but would like to know what it goes down to,

It's a prime lens fixed at 300mm
 
As admirable says, the 300mm F2.8 is a prime lens, so has a fixed focal length of 300mm in the case...
 
Being a fixed length ultimately means it will be better iq and has less glass elements for the light to pass through(?)
 
Is it me or is that a really cheap price, thought these sold for well over £2000.

Mmm sounds more like the price of a 300 f4?
 
Even at £1200, that sounds too good to be true, unless that lens is very battered. When I priced them up recently, the prices were still between £1600-2000 for the non IS versions and the 300mm IS MKI was still fetches used prices over £3000 on a couple of used sites I keep tabs on, so I would be very suspicious at that price.
 
Iron, are still in New Zealand? Perhaps they are cheaper there. Anymore info on the lens?

Nope. He's about 10 miles up the coast from you.

£1200 doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch for a non IS version in a used state - bearing in mind that they are no longer repairable.

Depending on condition the IS Mk Is go for £2300 upwards.

About a month or so ago, he left the country and looking at post time, i would guess he is still there :D

paul yea i am still in new zealand,
i am loving being back down here,
getting double the money that i was in the uk,
so thought i should spend some lol.
